Tour Guide Course

TOUR GUIDE COURSE

Have you ever wanted to work as a Tour Guide or in tourism? Are you a passionate historian who would love to share your enthusiasm with visitors to Dublin? Or perhaps you just want to learn more about the capital city of Ireland and have good fun along the way? If any of this sounds like you, then our course is for you!

The course is over seventeen weeks

from early November 2025 to early March 2026

This highly acclaimed course, led by the renowned Dublin historian Pat Liddy, is designed to help you learn everything you need to conduct top-class tours of Dublin City and the surrounding areas to a professional level. It is open to working tour guides and complete beginners alike.

The course covers a mix of Irish and Dublin history, works on developing your guiding skills – on foot and by coach – and includes discussions and guest sessions with our current working tour guides and industry contacts, as well as familiarisation visits to many Dublin attractions and areas of the city.

This course is an excellent hands-on experience with an emphasis on practical training with many modules presenting a fresh look at Irish/Dublin history, accompanied visits to the principal visitor centres in the city, talks from experts on every aspect of tour guiding, insights into running your own guiding operation and, principally, a programme of mentored training walks around all the districts of Dublin city centre. Weekly assignments and ongoing assessments will be part of the course.

On successful completion a certificate will be issued. This is not a FETAC registered course but it is an ideal accompaniment to such formal courses run by Dublinia or selected 3rd-level colleges.

The course is over seventeen weeks from Tues. 5th November 2024 to Thurs. 6th March 2025.

The classroom venue will be at No 1 Eden Quay, Dublin 1 - the very heart of Dublin City - from 09.00hrs to 13.00hrs each day.

The cost for the entire course is €995 including VAT. This cost may be put against income tax for any appropriate revenues earned from touring. Local Community Partnerships or State Employment Agencies can partly or sometimes fully fund the fee if you meet their requirements.
